Welcome to the Medina Lab
About Us
Located at Penn State University in State College Pennsylvania, the Medina Lab studies the biology, ecology and conservation of coral reefs with a particular emphasis on the impacts of ongoing climate change on these ecosystems.
We are interested in the ecology and evolution of host-microbe interactions, with an emphasis on cnidarian systems. We use different tools ranging from genomics, developmental and cell biology and organismal physiology.
Please contact Dr. Mónica Medina if you are interested in joining the lab.

” Part of my research deals with the use of genomic approaches to study life history of corals and how they are coping with climate change. My lab also studies the evolution of biomineralization in animals as an theoretical model to understand the challenges with character homology over large evolutionary scales.”
